What it is

AirMATE is a business assistant that gives small businesses business intelligence to improve performance. When businesses use Recruit's Air series services day to day, data such as sales, work schedules and purchasing is collected and analysed in the cloud. Owners see issues and suggested fixes on laptop or mobile, and can review the impact of actions they've already taken, with no manual data collection or complex analysis.

The problem

  • A shrinking working population has pushed hourly wages up and made hiring hard.
  • Inefficient store operations leave front-line staff too exhausted to think about management.
  • Owners don't track daily figures closely, so they miss changes.

What I did

  • Led art direction and design direction for the product.
  • Designed the product with Miyako Okubo, who also drew the illustrations.
  • Worked with a producer, three product managers and the engineering team.

Outcome

  • Good Design Award 2018.
  • Small businesses can use analytics without specialist skills and spend their time on running operations and profit.
